The story begins in Sicily in 1953. Gio, a teenage peasant boy, is given a seductive glimpse into the exclusive world of road racing whilst employed to clean the luxury automobiles of the rich shipping magnate and ex-racing champion, Sergio Rossi. Against the advice of Silvia, his beautiful wife, Rossi teaches the boy how to drive on the dusty roads of his estate high up on the hills above Palermo, but when disaster strikes, Gio's future becomes unclear, until the day he meets Lisa...
