“For in reason, government without the consent of the governed is the very definition of slavery.” –Jonathan Swift
In the year 2019, war and domestic unrest have pushed the United States to its breaking point. Struggling to hold onto its power, the United States has become a police state. The rights of citizens are trampled in the name of national security. But the people have been oppressed for too long.
Under the leadership of a man with a mysterious past, the many rise up against the few. Grant Zeller, an ex-Marine with no love for the government that has abandoned him to poverty, is caught up by this enigmatic group of rebels bent on taking back the country for the people. Caught between his sense of freedom and obedience, he must battle not only the enemy, but also the demons of his past.
As the United States devolves into a civil war, China expands its interests in Southwest Asia, Israel threatens war with the Arab world, and India is being conquered by Pakistan. The world is consumed by flames and behind the threat of nuclear war and global disaster, lurks a sinister plot more dangerous than Grant could ever realize.
This first installment of a multi-part series tells the story of “Division Day” and of the civil war that follows it. The pages are filled with the conflict between revolutionary and conservative, but in war morality becomes blurred and the question of who is rightful government is not one that Grant Zeller can easily answer.
“This country was founded on a simple principle: that the will of the people could never be silenced by those in power. Somewhere along the lines this simple truth has been forgotten, not only by those who could profit by its erasure, but also those whom are served by such a principle: it has been forgotten by the people themselves. In the rush for safety in the face of fear, in the desire for comfort in the face of the unknown, we have traded freedom for convenience, and in our laziness and our gluttony we have forgotten that this country was formed to do away with the boot of a tyrant that pressed heavy on the throats of our ancestors. Now, we have laid down once again in the mud, drunk in our comfort, and we do not realize that another boot and another tyrant have taken the place of that one that we threw off so long ago. Freedom is choking; democracy is dying. There now remains but little time for us to claim our country back, to throw off the shackles which have so imperceptibly bound us and to be free once again.” – Author unknown, date unknown
