A first novel by Michael Challinger, the author of "Port Moresby Mixed Doubles". Again set in New Guinea in earlier times and exploring the at times complex relationship between the natives ("nationals") and their western masters ("expats"). Challinger is an excellent writer and his book is literate, inventive and genuinely funny. Highly recommended reading.
