A handsome Oxford student begins a three-way relationship between himself, a beautiful 27-year-old female teacher, and the young, married, bisexual Head of Physics. The players in this game of love, observed by the apparently amoral narrator, become entangled in sexual anarchy that accelerates the novel towards a cataclysmic climax.
