When someone you love goes missing, something inside of you disappears with them. You question every person you meet, every place you go, every single thing you did that could have possibly prevented those circumstances from happening in the first place.
It’s been 17 years since 5-year-old Alexis Davis went missing without a trace. Her mother had glanced down to read an incoming text and, when she looked up no more than 20 seconds later, her daughter was gone.
The Davis case is the catalyst that propelled me into my chosen line of work. I saw the devastation surrounding our small community in the wake of her disappearance and it immediately became my life’s mission to ensure that it didn’t happen to anyone else.
Now, Alexis’s file has come across my desk unexpectedly. I’m a young, confident guy and I know that taking the case may very well be career suicide, but I’m certainly up for the challenge. I’m going to figure out what happened to that little girl, even if it’s the last fucking thing I do.
Children don’t just disappear out of thin air. Then again, beautiful women don’t just appear out of thin air, either… or so I’ve always thought.
