A dedicated, long-time wilderness mountaineer, Michael Hoyt has carefully documented his hikes using notes, Photographs, and maps. This guidebook, the first of three volumes, contains information about the trails in the northern portion of the Bitterroot Mountains. Hikers, trail runners, horseback riders, mountain bikers, and families will all find useful information in this book.
Some people think that paths into the wilderness and to wild mountains should remain a closely-guarded secret. Michael strongly believes that our planet's wild hands must be preserved if our species expects to survive. Further, he believes the long-term survival of wilderness lands will only be possible if more people feel they have a vested interest in their preservation. This guidebook was written with the hope it will bring more people into the backcountry, and in doing so, increase the probability the wild areas of the Bitterroot Mountains will continue to be protected and preserved.
Included in this book are trails which begin from Trailheads between Highway 12 on the north (Lolo Peak) and Printz Ridge on the south (Mill Creek Canyon) .
The remaining trails in the Bitterroot Mountains will be covered in Volumes 2 and 3.
