Spain has been plunged into a brutal Civil War.

César de Aguirre, an enigmatic bullfighter, known in the ring as El Rondeño de Aragon, is a proud Spanish nationalist.

So his feelings are conflicted when he meets the headstrong and attractive American, Kit Fremantle.

He stands for the very soul of his country, she for the free heart of America.

Kit is staying with her father, who is tasked with improving the increasingly tense relationship between the Americans and the Spanish locals.

But after meeting César’s family at the bullfight, she moves in with them in Medina.

Little does she know that César is part of an underground group, the Gentlemen of Covadonga, conspiring to sabotage the Americans and get them out of their country.

Despite their cultural clashes, Kit and César fall in love, but neither is willing to compromise their values to make a life together.

Will Kit learn César’s dark secret?

Can the couple overcome all their barriers to be together?

Or will they, like the country they are living in, be torn apart by their beliefs?
